  1. IHS Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon (Tuesday, June 5th). The annual Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon is on Tuesday, June 5th. This is our chance to thank the teachers and staff for all their hard work in making IHS a special place. There are several ways you can help:
  1. Send in a financial donation. Checks can be made out to IHS PTA with “appreciation luncheon” in the memo line. Have your student drop it off in the main office, or mail it to IHS PTA, 1401 N. Cayuga Street, Ithaca.
  2. Please consider helping out on the day. Let us know if you would like to help with set-up (from 8-10:00 am) or clean-up (from 2-3:30). Please send us an email if you would like to help out.

  1. IHS PTA Meeting (Wednesday, June 13th, 7:00pm). Please join us for the last PTA meeting of the 2017-18 school year. ***Shameless plug–we have great snacks.***
  1. IHS Senior Trip (Thursday, May 24th, Pocono Valley Resort, PA). Have fun Seniors!
  1. ICSD Regular School Day on Friday, May 25th. School will be held on Friday, May 25 due to emergency closing days.
  1. IHS Career Explorations Speaker Series: Law (Tuesday, May 29th, periods 5 & 6 in F36). IHS Career Explorations Speaker Series (co-sponsored by IHS Student Services and IHS PTA): Greg Foster, Career Development Manager: Pre-Law and Pre-Grad Advisor, in Cornell’s Career Services Office will give an overview of “A day in the life of an attorney and opportunities a law degree can offer” followed by q & a. Greg worked as a criminal defense attorney for 20 years, prior to founding a soccer promotion business. Program will repeat each of the two periods. Additional information in IHS Daily Announcements or from Student Services.
  1. IHS Juniors NHS (applications due, Friday, June 1st). All current juniors interested in applying for admission into the National Honor Society will need to fill out an application. All applications can be picked up in the main office. The due date for all applicants is June 1. Return all applications to Ms. Craig either to her mailbox in the main office or to her office in K-21a.
  1. IHS Seniors–Scholarship (FREE MONEY) Opportunities:
  • Cannon Heyman & Weiss Scholarship Fund. Scholarships (for students living in affordable housing) will be awarded to successful, qualified applicants and will offer financial aid for full and part-time study at approved colleges, junior colleges, technical schools, and other post-secondary institutions leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate. Deadline is June 1st.
  1. IHS Underclassmen Awards (Tuesday, June 5th, 6:30-9:00pm, Kulp Auditorium).
  1. IHS Senior Awards (Thursday, June 7th, 6:30-9:00pm, Kulp Auditorium).
  1. NYS Regents June 2018 Exam Schedule (June 12-22). IHS will confirm Regents Exam dates (June 12-22), but here is the published NYS schedule.
  1. IHS PTA College Panel, (2nd week of Regents, date TBD). Save the date 2nd week of Regents exams. Q&A with IHS alums and current college students. What’s college really like? Free pizza – woo hoo! Kulp Auditorium lobby.
  1. IHS Senior Prom (Saturday, June 16th, 7:00-10:00pm, Celebrations-Route 79). Seniors–get ready to dress up, look fabulous, and have a memorable Senior Prom at Celebrations on Route 79. Seniors need an Agreement of Responsibility and a Dance Contract in order to attend. Tickets will be on sale in advance only, and dates will be announced as we get closer to the event.
  1. IHS Class of 2018 Commencement (Thursday, June 21st, 7:00pm, Athletics and Events Center, Ithaca College). IHS Commencement will take place on June 21st at 7:00pm and last approximately until 8:45pm. Seniors must attend mandatory graduation rehearsal on June 21st at 1:00pm. Congratulations Class of 2018!
  1. IHS Yearbook ($75 check or cash to Lyn Reitenbach in G114). The IHS Annual yearbook is currently being printed and they are getting sold fast. Make payable to IHS Annual and give to Lyn Reitenbach who is located in G114.
  1. Notice from the ICSD Athletics & Wellness Department (starting Friday, June 22nd): Starting June 22nd, Dewitt, Northeast, and all IHS fields will be closed for maintenance to repair some areas of concern. The fields are in need of some TLC. Thank you for your support.
  1. Excelsior Scholarship Application Open for New Applicants for 2018-19 Academic Year. The application for the Excelsior Scholarship for new applicants in the 2018-19 academic year is now open. SUNY and CUNY students whose families make up to $110,000 annually can now apply for tuition-free college HERE. Application deadline: July 23, 2018.
  1. College Application Dates for Rising Seniors (Class of 2019). Heads up on two important colleges application dates…Common App opens August 1, 2018 and FAFSA October 1, 2018.
  1. Fall 2018 Sports Start August 2018. 2018 JV/Varsity Fall Sports tryouts begin August 13. Modified Sports begin August 20. If you are planning your summer vacations, please plan accordingly for August tryouts. For more information checkout the ICSD Athletics.
  1. Cohn Music Scholarship for IYB Summer Band and Orchestra. The Rella and Barney Cohn Music Scholarship Fund, provides annual music scholarships for summer study through the Ithaca Youth Bureau Summer Band and Orchestra Program. The Cohn Music Scholarship Fund is administered by IPEI with assistance from the Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) an IPEI affiliate, and the Ithaca Youth Bureau (IYB). Scholarships are applied to the IYB Summer Band and Orchestra Program. Registration is in June and requires the IYB scholarship application. For more information, contact
  1. Join the Teen Urban Farmers (TUF) (May 2-June 6) . Come to the Ithaca Children’s Garden after school on Wednesdays (4-6pm) through June 6 for TUF.  Sign up if you are looking for FUN, great snacks, new friends. Learn & work outside as a group to maintain a public garden, and become leaders in environmental stewardship. This is a great opportunity to fulfill community service requirements, too!   1. TCPL Drawing and Painting in New Makerspace (Friday, May 25th, 4:00-6:00pm). Tompkins County Public Library is pleased to invite people ages 16 and up to a drop-in session of drawing and painting, Friday, May 25, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the Library’s Makerspace. TCPL volunteer Mehveen will serve as host to this casual drawing and painting session. There will be a still-life set up, and Mehveen will be available for tips and pointers. Bring your favorite media, or use what we have on hand. Basic supplies are provided, but bring your own if you prefer. The first 20 people to arrive will be admitted to this drop-in session.
  1. United Way of Tompkins County Summers of Service Internships (due, Friday, June 1st by 5:00pm). The Summers of Service Program provides paid summer jobs of $1,600 each for local high school students. The jobs will give high school students (first priority to students entering their senior year) the opportunity to learn about the health and human services sector in Tompkins County. This year there are eleven participating organizations including, the Downtown Ithaca Children’s Center, GIAC, IC3, Lifelong, OAR, YMCA, and more!   1. HealthQuest Camp 2018 (application deadline Friday, June 1st). The Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC) and The Ithaca College School of Health Sciences and Human Performance are excited to announce that applications are open for HealthQuest Camp 2018. At HealthQuest, students will live and learn about careers in exercise and sport sciences, occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation, speech-language pathology. This five-day, four-night experience is for Central New York students entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. The application deadline is June 1, 2018. Camp dates are July 9 through 13, 2018.   1. TCPL Basics of Podcasting (Monday, June 4th, 6:30-7:30pm, BorgWarner Room). Back by popular demand, Kate Essig will present the basics of podcasting. This fun, skill-building lecture is one-night only. Open to adults and teens (ages 13-17). Event is free, but registration is required.
