Your membership and donations are essential in supporting our students, our teachers and our school by funding Mini Grants for teachers, the Open House, The Word, the Healthy Snack Program, Achievement Awards, the Staff Appreciation Luncheon, Morning Munch and our Programming. Please consider joining each member in your household, including your students. You can join securely on-line at our new MemberHub Store. Be sure to scroll down on this site to add an extra donation to your shopping basket. You can print and complete the 2018-2019 membership form our website ( and sending it into the main office in an envelope marked PTA – membership. ***SUNY Brockport will be hosting Instant Decision Day on Thursday, November 8th, in room J37 from 12:30pm-3:30pm. Please sign up with Jay Barnes in the main office to schedule a time with College Rep, Ashleigh Petrucci. He will provide Ms. Petrucci with a copy of your transcript. She will meet with students individually during a 15 minute time frame.

  1. IHS Fall Drama Production: Teach Me How to Cry (November 9-11). IHS proudly presents the Fall Drama Production: Teach Me How to Cry by Patricia Joudry. A boy and a girl, both outcasts in the world of prom dates and grapevine rumor, stumble upon each other and slowly find their way toward affection, identity, and dignity. Performances are Friday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ithaca High School Performing Arts Center Black Box Theater, 1405 N. Cayuga Street, Ithaca, NY. Tickets will be on sale in the Ithaca High School cafeteria beginning November 5 during lunch periods (11:00 a.m. – 1:30 pm) and at the door. Tickets are $8 students/$10 adults. The cast features Sankofa McLaurin as Melinda Grant and James Harrod as Will Henderson.
  1. IHS Athletic Office Updates:
  • Tryouts for Little Red Volleyball Club (LRVC): Sunday, November 11th and Sunday, November 18th, 1:30-5:00pm (both dates), Ithaca High School Bliss Gym. All girls in grades 6-12 living in Ithaca and surrounding communities are invited to come to one or both days of tryouts. Players will be placed, both by skill level and age group, on different teams. Club fee is based on which travel team a player makes. Players MUST be registered with the IREVA Region of USA Volleyball in order to try out. Tryout fee is $10.00 and paid online when registering. Contact for LRVC questions.
  • Winter Sports Start Dates: JV and Varsity Winter Sports started November 5th and Modified will start November 13th.
  • Girls Swim & Dive 2018 Class A Section IV Champions – CONGRATULATIONS!
  • Fall sports competing in States: Boys & Girls Cross Country and Girls Swim & Dive – DOUBLE CONGRATULATIONS!
  1. IHS Daily Announcements. We love our students, but sometimes they are not the best at sharing information. Check out IHS Daily Announcements to follow daily IHS news & updates.
  1. No School: Veterans Day (Monday, November 12th). No school on Monday, November 12th in observance of Veteran’s Day.
  1. IHS Seniors: Senior Bowling Night (Friday, November 16th, 7:00-10:00pm, Bowl-O-Drome). This will be a lanyard event, meaning free admission for any seniors with lanyards. Check your emails for how to purchase or replace your lanyards! Let’s get j19gy with it!
  1. IHS 2019 Annual On Sale Now. Go to and enter out code of 8812. If you have a great photo of our students at work, at school or participating in the many school clubs and activities please send it to We are also welcoming new members. No experience necessary. Writers, photographers, graphic artists, JOIN THE YEARBOOK. We meet Tuesday afternoons in Library Lab 1 but students can contribute to the book even if they are unable to attend meetings. Interested?   1. IHS Seniors: Yearbook Portrait (due December 6th). For the yearbook, Seniors have the option to submit a senior portrait. Prestige Portraits will be offering professional portraits to all students for free. Packages will be available for purchase, but students are not obligated to do so. Call 607-798-0909 to make an appointment with Prestige. All other senior portraits must be submitted by December 6, 2018 to, otherwise the Lifetouch photo taken for the student’s school ID will be used. Photos must be under 10 MB and portrait orientation. The senior will be notified if there are any issues regarding their portrait.
  1. IHS Clubs. IHS has something for everyone! Get involved, meet some new people, and have fun. For a complete list check out this link. Special shoutout to the IHS Ski Club. If interested please see Mr. Noyes in G116–deadline for registering is December 18th.
  1. Leaf Raking for Morocco. The IHS Morocco Cultural Exchange Club is running a fundraiser for their upcoming trip to Morocco in April. If you have leaves that need raking please consider asking the club to come rake them for you. The price is negotiable so everyone can come out ahead.   1. No School: Thanksgiving Day Recess (Wednesday, November 21st-Friday, November 23rd). Enjoy your holiday and save room for pie.
  1. IHS College Signing Day (Tuesday, November 27th). On November 27th student-athletes will commit to schools during the college signing ceremony (5:30pm, Activities Building).
  1. IHS Sophomores (PSAT-10 registration deadline Friday, December 14th). The PSAT-10 exam will be given to all interested sophomore students on Friday, March 1, 2019. The fee to take the exam is $16.00 and students can register and pay for the exam with Mr. Barnes in the College and Career Office. Checks should be made out to Ithaca High School. The deadline to register is Friday, December 14, 2018. Practice booklets will be given out well before the date of the exam. If you expect to receive testing accommodations you must apply for these through College Board.
  1. College Application Dates for Seniors (Class of 2019). FAFSA  and CSS Profile opened October 1, 2018. “May the odds be ever in your favor.”
  1. TCPL Teen Writing Workshop (Fridays November 9th-December 14th, 4:30-5:30pm). Teens (grades 6-12) can flex their creative muscles in TCPL’s weekly after school writing workshops. Sign up for a couple or take them all – each week will be something a little different but attendance at all sessions is not required. These one-hour classes will be led by Writopia-trained students from Ithaca College. November 16 or November 23. For more information contact Teen Services Librarian Regina (
  1. Splash! at Cornell Fall 2018 (Saturday, November 10th). Splash! brings area 7th-12th grade students to the Cornell campus for one day each semester to take “teach anything, learn anything” classes taught by Cornell undergrads. First-come, first-served registration is now open.
  1. Saltonstall Arts Colony-Teacher Retreat (application deadline January 19th). In partnership with the Fine Arts Boosters Group (FABG), the Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts is offering a residency-type retreat for ICSD teachers and other Tompkins County teachers during the Winter (February 16-20, 2019) and Spring (April 13-17, 2019) recess. The program is free and offered through a lottery system. Application deadline is January 19, 2019.
