The following is a weekly e-newsletter containing announcements, events and opportunities happening at school and in our community for IHS students and families. This weekly communication is a partnership between the IHS PTA and IHS itself to reach out to all families as it is our joint vision to support full engagement for ALL students at IHS. This e-newsletter is informational only and is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Board of Education of the Ithaca City School District, the Superintendent of the ICSD or this school.   1. First PTA Meeting of the year (Thursday, September 27th at 7:00pm, Activities Room). Another year and another opportunity to get involved with our terrific (and chill) IHS PTA. All are welcome to attend, become a member, eat tasty snacks, and hear about great programs for our students and teachers. Principal Jason Trumble will attend September 27th’s meeting.
  1. IHS Daily Announcements. We love our students, but sometimes they are not the best at sharing information. Check out IHS Daily Announcements to follow daily IHS news & updates.
  1. IHS Picture Day (Friday, September 14th and Monday, September 17th–whichever day your student’s PE class falls): Reminder that IHS Picture Days have been rescheduled and will now take place on Friday, September 14th & Monday, September 17th. Retakes scheduled Monday, October 29th. Information available at Lifetouch (Picture Day ID: WL018001Y0).
  1. IHS Picture Day Volunteers Needed (Friday, September 14th and Monday, September 17th). Parents & caregivers–we need VOLUNTEERS to help in 2-hour blocks (8-10, 10-12, 12-2, and 2-3:45pm).   1. IHS Clubs. IHS has something for everyone! Get involved, meet some new people, and have fun. For a complete list check out this link.
  1. IHS Athletic Booster Association (next meeting September 20th at 7:00pm, Activities Room). If your student plays modified, JV, or Varsity sports, consider the Ithaca High School Athletic Booster Association. Meeting plug–Sports Boosters meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:00pm in the Activities Room (next meeting is September 20th at 7:00pm).
  1. IPEI supports ICSD and the community. Ithaca Public Education Initiative (IPEI) believes the education of every student in the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) is enhanced through community connections and support. Applications for Red and Gold Grants, Teacher Grants, and Connecting Classrooms Grants are due by midnight on October 10, January 9, and March 20. IPEI affiliates: The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) works in partnership with the ICSD to advocate, support and celebrate all the arts for all the kids. IthacaSTEM Advocates is devoted to fostering the appreciation, knowledge, and application of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by encouraging involvement in STEM-related activities, clubs, teams, events, and classes in the ICSD.
  1. College Application Dates for Seniors (Class of 2019). Heads up on two important colleges application dates…Common App opened August 1, 2018 and FAFSA opens October 1, 2018.
  1. TC-3 College Fair (Tuesday, October 16th; permission slip deadline is Wednesday, September 28th) Juniors and seniors interested in attending the TC-3 College Fair on Tuesday, October 16th. Please pick up your permission slips in the Main Office/College & Career. The deadline for returning your permission slips is Wednesday, September 26th. The college fair will also have an evening session from 6:00-8:00 pm for students wishing to attend with their parents. Ithaca High School will not provide transportation for the evening session.
  1. 2018-19 SAT and ACT. 2018-19 dates posted for 2018-19 SAT and ACT. Registration deadline for November 3rd SAT is October 5th. Registration deadline for October 27th ACT is September 28th).
  1. PSAT (Class of 2020 PSAT, Wednesday, October 10th ). IHS will administer the PSAT to 11th grade students on Wednesday, October 10th and students should report to the gym by 8:55am. If you have questions, checkout the summer mailing (flier inside) or contact Brenda Sullivan at 607-274-2218.
  1. TCPL Teen Writing Workshop (Fridays September 14th-December 14th, 4:30-5:30pm). Teens (grades 6-12) can flex their creative muscles in TCPL’s weekly after school writing workshops. Sign up for a couple or take them all – each week will be something a little different but attendance at all sessions is not required. These one-hour classes will be led by Writopia-trained students from Ithaca College. No class on October 19, November 16, or November 23.   1. Enclose Cass Extravaganza (Saturday, November 3rd). The Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau will host the second annual community event for all ages on Saturday, November 3 to benefit the Cass Park Arena Enclosure Campaign supporting upgrades that will retain the arena’s traditional charm while making it more sustainable and successful. Events: Food Truck and Bake Sale (12 noon to 7 pm); Skate-a-thon–collect donations per lap or minute in advance or on Nov. 3 (2:30 to 5:15 pm); Broomball–fun games for teams or individuals paying entry fee (5:30 to 10 pm); Silent Auction and Raffle-Cass Park lobby (3 to 8 pm).
